Who wants an update?

Things we’ve been up to at the house lately:

1) New paintings!

-After a whole lot of trial and error and experimentation, I have developed a process for a new series of paintings. Well, I’ve only actually finished one as of now, but I have a few more already in the works and have already received an exceptionally positive response, which is just delightful!

The process is so much fun and I am actually loving every step.  I look forward to showing you more of this soon. =]

I’ve been able to draw and paint more spontaneously and I’ve noticed that the more I do, the more I want to do. My world is kind of revolving around art and painting right now. I moved a good portion of my supplies downstairs to get away from the summer heat. It’s great because I can get some private time when I need it to really focus and work, or I can finish up a painting while we watch a movie or someone plays a game.

I can’t tell you how happy I am to feel like I can work freely and to be making stuff I’m really happy with.

2) Painting minis!

- It’s all about tabletop miniature wargames!  If you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about: here’s a good overview.  So, Games Workshop is the big papa bear company and for the last several years they’ve essentially had a monopoly on miniature sales, charging ridiculous prices and shipping,  and just plain lying to consumers about issues of quality. It’s gross. They’re gross. Along comes the underdog, Reaper created a kickstarter to fund the production of a new line of models and the outpour of support was ridiculous: ” $3,429,235 pledged of 30,000 goal”. Reaper did great things with their kickstarter too, including a system of stretch goals and rewards where each pledge level would receive more models and options without needing to pledge more money.

So we pledged only $100 last year and just received in the mail- a giant box of over 200 beautiful high-quality resin models, including several larger pieces. It’s a really amazing deal.  I can’t get over it.

With so many models to work with, I can really experiment with different painting techniques. Just the other day, I tried using oil paints and the result was fantastic. I am still getting used to the size, and I might want to buy a couple of new tiny brushes, but I am looking forward to coloring up some more of these guys.

So that’s that.

Oh and we’re running a new pen and paper campaign. My character is an awakened pug who specializes in disguises. heh heh heh.

3) Art Sale and Etsy Store!

-Recently on my facebook, I held a little sale of original drawings and paintings.  I’m thrilled to announce that I earned enough funds from this sale to buy crucial materials and set up an etsy store for selling artwork and prints. I’ll be working on setting up my listings over the next week and should be able to start fulfilling orders within the next month or so.

Weeeee!

4) Artown!

-Good things happening as far as local art shows and events. Opportunities popping up for me.  And just so many amazing artists around town right now. July is Artown in Reno, and it’s always good fun.

5) We are being musical creatures!

-Our resident musician Jack is doing great things and even teaching me a little bass guitar. We managed to get a copy of FL Studio for our main computer and are beginning to flesh out our hilarious music concept. It’s totally a secret and I’m not telling.

6) Film Arts

-Watching lots of really good and really terrible film and television thanks to our resident appreciator. Jacob is that guy who never watches movies and hasn’t seen anything, so we are trying to get him up to speed with all the goodies. Then there’s the “so bad they’re almost good” stuff if you feel like laughing and getting upset.  Finally finished my new favorite anime- Madoka Magica.  It is seriously worth watching.

7) Work

-I’m putting my new coding skills to work and rebuilding my work’s websites from scratch this summer.  The guys are all working on getting themselves work and/or housing by the end of the summer while we all attempt to stay more or less financially afloat.

8) San Fran

-My sister is dragging me to San Francisco this month for her much needed vacation, with boyfriends in tow. So very very excited for this!

 9) Also happening here:

Obscene quantities of tea, thunderstorms, swimming in the river, failing to go to Tahoe, late night-early morning dance parties, talking about the cosmos, and quite a bit of animal crossing.
I hope you all are having great summers and getting into some fun creative pursuits.
Throw yourself in, let the rest go, and you just might find you have more mojo than you thought.  Remember that positivity breeds positivity. So fake it if you have to!
With lots of Love,
P.B. Peppy Becca
I love this hidden wetlands area I got my feet wet. Now there's proof I was there. Let's call this part of the trial and error process? Sketches for a new diptych. Saw this cutie while on a walk. Figuring things out. =D Crayons and Cut-outs. First completed in the series. Ooh, I can't wait to show you more! Website design sketches. hanging out. =p
psst… I’m almost starting to get my nerve back for some creative writing. Sssh, don’t tell.
